Copyright Registration

Registration of your creative work with the US Copyright Office, which is what unlocks statutory damages and the right to sue.

Starts at

$129 + $65 government fee

Copyright exists the moment you create something. Registration is separate, and it is what gives the right teeth: you cannot bring an infringement suit in federal court without it, and you cannot claim statutory damages or attorney fees unless you registered before the infringement or within three months of publication.

Trademark protects the name you trade under. Copyright protects the work itself — the artwork, the photography, the course material, the code, the music. Most brands need both and register neither.

What is included

Work classification

Literary, visual arts, performing arts, sound recording or single-application — the wrong category delays the whole registration.

Authorship and ownership

Sorting out work-made-for-hire, contractor-created material and joint authorship before it is declared, not after.

Deposit preparation

Preparing the copy of the work in the format the Copyright Office requires for its category.

Publication status

Published and unpublished works are treated differently. We establish which yours is and what date applies.

Group registration

Where eligible — such as a group of photographs — registering as a group rather than paying per work.

Filing and tracking

Submission to the Copyright Office and tracking through to your certificate.

How it works

  1. 01

    Tell us about the work

What it is, who made it, and whether it has been published.

  2. 02

    We classify and prepare

Correct category, correct claimant, correct deposit format.

  3. 03

    You approve

You confirm the authorship and ownership details before submission.

  4. 04

    We file

Submitted with your case number returned, then tracked to certificate.

Frequently asked

To enforce it, yes. Without registration you cannot file an infringement suit, and registering late cuts you off from statutory damages and attorney fees for infringement that already happened.
